What I do
I am responsible for things that help ‘glue’ the organisation together, from developing strategic targets and monitoring key performance indicators to making sure that our internal and external facing services are fit-for-purpose to support the needs of The Big Bang, Tomorrow’s Engineers and other projects. But, I also look longer term with both an internal and external perspective to ensure that the team can perform at the highest level.
Background
A jock-of-all-trades , but a systems engineer with a cinematic outlook by training, I have spent the last 15 years working in various consulting and senior management roles in what could broadly be described as ‘New Media’ divisions of ‘Old Media’ conglomerates, both in Sweden and the UK.
If only
If only all those devices that we rely on like laptops and especially mobile phones were actually powerful and clever enough to do the things that they say they do properly! How many times have I been disappointed by performance when browsing or viewing video on the move? Maybe the new generation will be better – but I am not holding my breath!
On your doorstep
One of my colleagues had a meeting once... in the “electrical switching station” for the West End of London. Apparently the entrance is hidden in Leicester Square and many metres below there are huge banks of switches with the names of the famous buildings and businesses. Throwing any of those switches could have a huge impact – and a great thing is that none of the tourists above have any idea that they are missing one of the best sites in the capital!
