Biography

Christine has nearly 20 years' experience in senior roles in FE colleges and is currently principal and chief executive of Birmingham Metropolitan College.
 
During her twelve years as a principal, Christine has managed major change, including restructuring and rebuilding in the centre of Birmingham.  In 2007 Christine won the ‘most inspiring leader award’ and was short listed for Business Women of the Year and was awarded the CBE in 2008.

Before moving into FE leadership, Christine worked as a senior adviser for the Home Office, managing and coordinating education policy in collaboration with local authorities and FE providers.  She worked at Dudley College as deputy principal prior to which she ran the faculty of art and design, community and special education needs where she gained experience of developing successful international links between the world of education and business.

Christine has acted as specialist adviser to the Education and Skills Select Committee and as a board member of the Quality Improvement Agency (QIA) and now the Learning Skills Improvement Service (LSIS).

Christine is currently Vice President of the Birmingham & Solihull Chamber of Commerce and will take over as President in March 2010.  She sits on the CBI Council and is Chancellor of Birmingham Community College.
