Education and Skills Panel
EngineeringUK’s Education and Skills Panel exists to advise and position the view of the board on the different strands of education and policy related to engineering and associated subjects.
The panel was convened on April 29th 2008 and is chaired by Dr Christine Braddock CBE, Principal and Chief Executive of Birmingham Metropolitan College. Dr Braddock took over as chair in June 2009 from Professor Christopher Snowden, Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Surrey.
The panel currently consists of 22 members spanning senior positions from within the education and skills and arenas, the list of current members and their biographies can be found here.
Terms of reference
• To provide advice and guidance to the Board on changes in the context of global developments to education policy in the UK related to engineering and technology.
• To monitor and assess the skills and demand needs for engineering now and in the future through appropriate sources of data.
• To develop a forum with the Careers Advisory Panel to address key issues relating to information, advice and guidance (IAG) on career development.
• To act as ambassadors and advisors on behalf of EngineeringUK within Government, schools, HE/FE, SSC’s, Regional Development Agencies, Employers and other relevant stakeholders.
When launched, Sir Anthony Cleaver, Chairman of EngineeringUK, said:
“We have convened this high-level Education and Skills Panel to encourage and facilitate better co-ordination across professional engineering institutions, education and training providers and the engineering community as a whole. We believe the panel’s depth and breadth of experience will enhance EngineeringUK’s contribution to improving education and skills provision for the benefit of UK plc.”
