Four of Top Ten Graduate Salaries Are in Engineering Subjects

Figures recently released by HESA and republished in last week’s Times reveal that four out of the top graduate salaries are in engineering subjects. Second only to Dentistry and Medicine, Chemical Engineering graduates come in third with an average starting salary of £28,415. This is closely followed by Economics, with General Engineering coming in fifth with an average graduate starting salary of £25,455.

The Big Bang: Who’s Influencing Who?

At the Science Communication Conference in London this week, a panel consisting of Ken Mannion, Centre for Science Education, Paul Jackson, EngineeringUK, Kevin Burke, STEMNET, and Becky Parker, Simon Langton Grammar School, discussed the importance of engaging young people in science and engineering drawing on experience at The Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair in Manchester earlier this year.

Speaking at the ‘Decisions at 18’ Careers Conference at Royal Holloway University of London today, Paul Jackson, Chief Executive of Engineering UK, highlighted the disparity in the percentage of female engineering professionals in the UK compared to other European countries.


TEENTECH 2010 is Rewarded £1000 by EngineeringUK During National Science and Engineering Week

TeenTech 2010, an event for more than 300 teenagers from 22 Berkshire schools, was today awarded Best Engineering Event 2010 by EngineeringUK in the prestigious National Science and Engineering Week (NSEW) Event Awards, a scheme put together in order to encourage and recognise brilliance and originality in public engagement and science outreach during NSEW.

On Wednesday 21st April, Paul Jackson will speak to careers advisors from all over the UK at the Careers Development Organisation (CRAC) Decisions at 18 conference in London. Together with Kate Bellingham, Paul Jackson will provide a comprehensive and evidence based overview of the ever changing landscape of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) opportunities and highlight recent joint working examples from The Big Bang: UK Young Scientists' and Engineers' Fair 2010 in Manchester.
