1/6/2010 - Four of the Top Ten Most Well Paid Graduate Jobs are in Engineering
Figures recently released by HESA and republished in last week’s Times reveal that four out of the top ten most highly paid graduate jobs are in engineering. Second only to Dentistry and Medicine, Chemical Engineering comes in third with an average graduate starting salary of £28,415. This is closely followed by Economics, with General Engineering coming in fifth with an average graduate starting salary of £25,455.

25/5/2010 – The Big Bang as Catalyst: Who’s Influencing Who?
At the Science Communication Conference in London this week, a panel discussed the importance of engaging young people in science and engineering drawing on experience at The Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair in Manchester earlier this year.
Speaking at the ‘Decisions at 18’ Careers Conference at Royal Holloway University of London today, Paul Jackson, Chief Executive of Engineering UK, highlighted the disparity in the percentage of female engineering professionals in the UK compared to other European countries.
TeenTech 2010, an event for more than 300 teenagers from 22 Berkshire schools, was today awarded Best Engineering Event 2010 by EngineeringUK in the prestigious National Science and Engineering Week (NSEW) Event Awards, a scheme put together in order to encourage and recognise brilliance and originality in public engagement and science outreach during NSEW.
25/3/2010 - Adult Engineering Apprentices Up 88 Per Cent Whilst Those Aged 16 -25 Go Down
A new paper from EngineeringUK reveals that there has been an 88 per cent increase in the number of adult engineering apprentices (25 +) between 2009 and 2010, compared to an 8 per cent decrease in young engineering apprentices (16-18) and a 9 per cent decrease in engineering apprentices overall across all ages.

The UK’s eight leading engineering organisations today launch a comprehensive call for action to ensure that engineering makes the maximum contribution to solving Britain’s biggest challenges: the economy, the environment, education, infrastructure and public services.
Figures just in reveal that 22,545 people attended last week’s Big Bang: UK Young Scientists’ and Engineers’ Fair in Manchester; more than three times as many as the 6,500 who attended the inaugural Fair in 2009.
After the culmination of many months of trialling and testing ideas and inventions, ten overall prize-winners were drawn across a range of different categories and age groups this evening (Friday, 12 March), as finalists in this year’s annual National Science & Engineering Competition presented their projects at The Big Bang in Manchester.

17/12/2009 - Engineering Still Occupation of Choice but Risk of Brain Drain remains
A new paper released today by EngineeringUK finds Engineering and Technology graduates to be highly employable, with 94.3% in work three years after graduation, second only to medicine and dentistry.
At a House of Commons reception hosted by Phil Willis MP, ETB Chairman and Chief Executive, Sir Anthony Cleaver and Paul Jackson, will launch the new EngineeringUK name at the same time as announcing the key findings of Engineering UK 2009/10.
1/12/2009 - Over Half A Million New Engineers Needed By 2017 to Ensure UK’s Economic Recovery
In order for the UK economy to recover, the manufacturing sector will need to recruit over half a million (587, 000) engineering and manufacturing workers with state-of the-art-skills by 2017, according to a report launched today by EngineeringUK, the independent organisation that promotes the vital contribution of engineers, engineering and technology in our society.
1/12/2009 - BME Women are Studying to Create a Sustainable Future
On Tuesday 1 December EngineeringUK will launch its annual report on the state of UK Engineering. Although the report shows major a shortfall of half a million engineering and manufacturing workers needed by 2017 to ensure economic recovery, it also reveals that Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) women are taking a greater role in acquiring the skills needed for creating a sustainable future for the UK.
12/11/2009 - ETB and Academy Asked to Produce Recommendations on Engineering Technicians
The Engineering and Technology Board (ETB) and The Royal Academy of Engineering have welcomed the Government’s new skills strategy and its emphasis on engineering as a priority area as a clear recognition of the vital role that engineering will play in the economic recovery and in addressing future global challenges such as climate change, infrastructure renewal and clean water. The ETB and the Academy have been asked by the Government to produce recommendations to increase the status and recognition of engineering technicians, and are looking forward to meeting this challenge. 10/11/2009 - ETB Means Business When It Comes to Gender Equality in SET
The Engineering and Technology Board (ETB) has signed a CEO Charter on gender equality, drawn up by the UK Resource Centre for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (UKRC). New research from the Engineering and Technology Board (ETB) finds a 19% increase since June 2008 in the number of the general public that would recommend a career in engineering to their children, family and friends. The research also reveals an 8% increase in the general public and a 6% increase in the number of parents and guardians who regard engineering as a ‘desirable’ or very desirable’ career. Read more
Today’s GCSE results bring excellent news for the engineering sector as the number of students sitting physics, chemistry, additional maths and maths has increased by 21%, 20%, 11% and 2% respectively since 2008. Read more
The Engineering and Technology Board (ETB) today congratulated students on their excellent A Level results in science and maths subjects but warned that science, technology, engineering and mathematics communities must remain at the top of their game and continue to encourage students from all backgrounds and in particular women, to take key subjects such as physics and maths. Nearly 160,000 school pupils across Scotland have received their examination results today, and there is good news for engineering subjects as entry levels for both Advanced Physics and Advanced Maths Highers have gone up by ten percent. Read more

8/6/2009 - Paul Jackson Highlights Engineering Skills Gaps at European Regional Economic Forum 2009
ETB Chief Executive Paul Jackson today gave a presentation to the European Regional Economic Forum (EREF) on ‘The skills needs for engineering in the 21st century.’ Convened in Slovenia and attended by representatives from the 27 EU member states, this year’s EREF addressed the issue of "Developing Human Capital and Managing Migration for more Competitive European Regions".
