Highlighting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) opportunities at careers advisors conference

The Big Bang

On Wednesday 21st April, Paul Jackson will speak to careers advisors from all over the UK at the Careers Development Organisation (CRAC) Decisions at 18 conference in London. Together with Kate Bellingham, Paul Jackson will provide a comprehensive and evidence based overview of the ever changing landscape of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) opportunities and highlight recent joint working examples from The Big Bang: UK Young Scientists' and Engineers' Fair 2010 in Manchester.

The first integrated careers programme of its kind, The Big Bang careers awareness programme was developed by EngineeringUK and The Science Council in partnership with the Department of Children, School and Families (DCSF), involving speed networking, an interactive careers quest, co-ordinated careers resources and a series of live panel debates.

On April 21, Paul Jackson and Kate Bellingham will point to key evidence from EngineeringUK, the annual statistical guide on the state of engineering; and a summary of specific DCSF and BIS policy and action in this area. Paul Jackson will also discuss women in the STEM sector and Kate Bellingham will signpost the range of support materials for careers IAG professionals that are available as a result of the now established and wide reaching DCSF STEM programme.
