This includes directing the organisations targeting approach to ensure we are working with young people from groups who are under-represented in STEM; developing and delivering our bursary programme; staying abreast of developments in EDI good practice and language; keeping on top of the current STEM engagement landscape and ensuring our programmes are accessible and engaging to as wide a variety of young people as possible.

Specialisms:

Equality, diversity and inclusion, and impactful STEM outreach.

Bio & Background

My background is very varied - I’ve taken a somewhat convoluted route to get to this role. I studied human geography which ignited my passion in social inequalities and then worked as an event manager which is useful in my current role when working with the Big Bang team. I qualified as a primary teacher and taught in a number of different schools and then worked at the University of Southampton organising events for the public engagement with research unit (including a science and engineering festival and a roadshow that took STEM engagement to events such as Glastonbury Festival). I then became the Head of Widening Participation and Director of STEM engagement at Winchester Science Centre, where a large part of my role included working to make the Centre and its offer accessible to Disabled people.
