A globally competitive market, unprecendented changes with technology at the fore, and high expectations from customers make the rail sector an exciting and rewarding industry in which to work.
Ricardo Rail is an international rail consultancy with over 600 rail specialists. These experts provide technical expertise, assurance and specialist engineering services to a client portfolio that ranges from some of the world's largest rail administrations to more niche component suppliers. Ricardo helps these organisations navigate the industry's operational, commercial and regulatory demands in all disciplines, from rolling stock and signalling to energy efficiency, safety management and operational planning.
Expertise from diversity
“The long-term success of our business is dependent upon our ability to continue to offer a diversity of professional backgrounds, disciplines and individual outlooks’ says Paul Seller, Managing Director of Ricardo’s global rail team. “Our Corporate Membership of EngineeringUK helps us show how engineering and science can be an exciting and rewarding career – and it helps us to remember why we became engineers ourselves and pass that enthusiasm on.”
Ricardo encourages its staff to support STEM outreach work and ensures time and resource is allocated to enable them to take part in community projects that help promote engineering in education. In the UK, for example, Ricardo supports various STEM initiatives in schools and colleges close to its offices - amongst the schemes they have supported recently was the ‘Lego League’, which involved Ricardo staff spending time with students helping them to develop ideas with robotic kits.
Through our Tomorrow’s Engineers programme, we work closely with Ricardo to join up regional projects to a national level and engage with other employers on the network to ensure a unified voice represents the sector.
