Collaboration inspires the next generation
Corporate Membership Engagement Manager, John Nahar, talks to us about how membership gives employers the chance to work together to build the talent pipeline.
How does EngineeringUK Corporate Membership support the talent pipeline?
EngineeringUK Corporate Membership is designed to support employers in inspiring the next generation of engineers. It helps influence national developments and provides a neutral platform for STEM employers to come together and share knowledge and best practice. These interactions help members strengthen their own outreach activities and collaborate on others to reach those involved in education, industry and government. We’ve got some exciting plans for the coming months, which will support collaboration between members and strengthen that industry voice.
What do you think are the best aspects of Corporate Membership?
We’ve recently spoken to members about this very topic and what we’ve found is that members value the ability to put aside commercially led drivers and network and share best practice with peers on neutral territory to achieve a common objective. Members also find that contributing to the impartial voice of EngineeringUK is important to them in reaching decision makers and that the collective voice is much more powerful than an individual organisation with potential commercial bias.
What do you most enjoy about working with Corporate Members?
In general, the passion of individual representatives for promoting STEM to young people is really inspiring. Hearing about the various initiatives our members are involved in is particularly interesting - whether it’s a schools outreach activity or policy related government feedback - and to be able to provide support to members delivering on these initiatives makes the job really enjoyable.
What’s on the horizon?
As we embark on a new five-year strategy, there’s a lot happening in how we work with Corporate Members. We’re improving ways to share knowledge and insight, improving opportunities to raise brand awareness and profile. We’re also working on a membership structure that will open up the offer to a wider range of employers across supply chain as well as on a regional level.
