Neon

Neon brings together the UK's best engineering experiences and inspiring careers resources and stories to help teachers bring STEM to life with real world examples of engineering.

As well as inspiring case studies and careers resources created by the careers working group, Neon showcases carefully curated experiences from across the engineering and STEM education sectors.

It is an opportunity to connect schools, businesses, educational establishments and students.

All experiences featured on Neon meet our quality criteria so teachers can be sure they are of the best possible standard. The quality criteria have been developed with the engineering community and only those experiences that meet the criteria feature on the site. For example, experiences must include positive and contemporary messaging about engineering and engineering careers, they should be inclusive in design and delivery and committed to embedding learning and improvement.

We draw on analytics and user insight as we continue to develop Neon to suit the needs of teachers. Sometimes these are small tweaks, while other projects are more involved. For example, in 2022 the site was redesigned to help teachers find the right experiences for their classrooms, specific to their education level. This meant that both primary and secondary school teachers could filter the experiences to discover those that work best for them and their students.

Neon is developed with strategic support from British Science Association, Department for Education, Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Engineering and Technology, Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Royal Academy of Engineering, Shell and STEM Learning.

If you deliver engineering outreach for young people, we'd love to feature your experiences on Neon. We'll give you a shop window and let you target your audience, all free of charge.
