The Code explores... helps STEM outreach organisations learn and improve impact
The Code explores... programme is helping organisations across The Tomorrow’s Engineers Code community access practical insights, evidence and resources to strengthen STEM outreach.

Developed in response to feedback from Code Signatories, the programme explores topics in depth through a mix of live sessions, on-demand content, practical tools and community discussion over several weeks.
Since launching over a year ago, The Code explores... has covered subjects including:
- engaging schools
- inspiring young people
- evaluation
- inclusion
All content is available on demand alongside downloadable takeaway packs.
One of the programme’s first series focused on helping organisations build stronger relationships with schools.
It shared findings from EngineeringUK's research showing that 79% of schools had participated in STEM outreach activities during the previous academic year. However, teachers cited lack of funding (52%) and lack of time (49%) as significant barriers to participation.
The series also highlighted practical ways to engage schools through platforms such as Neon and partnerships with local Careers Hubs, while giving teachers a direct voice in shaping good outreach practice.
All Code Signatories and Supporters are invited to experience each Code explores… series, with some specialists featuring in particular episodes.
Cat Sturman, Senior Code Manager at EngineeringUK, said: “The Code explores... was developed in direct response to what our community told us they needed. By combining live events, on-demand content and peer discussion, it gives organisations the flexibility to explore important topics in greater depth and learn from each other.”
