£650 bursaries available for secondary schools

EngineeringUK is proud to be opening 2 STEM bursary schemes today, supporting schools to provide hands-on STEM engagement activities to students from all backgrounds. We offer bursaries of £650 for secondary schools to inspire the engineers of the future.

We want more young people to start thinking about a possible future in STEM and want to inspire students who don’t necessarily already have a passion for science or engineering. The bursaries will be awarded to schools with high proportions of students from groups that are underrepresented in engineering and technology.

Schools that meet the EngineeringUK priority schools criteria can apply for £650 to run an activity on Neon or to host a Big Bang event in their own school. Neon isa website that helps teachers introduce their students to future STEM careers, raise their aspirations and explore the excitement of engineering through brilliant, quality-assured activities. Big Bang at School is an inspiring day filled with exciting science and engineering activities, workshops and project work.

Schools can apply for a bursary by 31 July 2025.

All our students loved the day and it has revitalised the whole school's approach to science. We are very grateful for the funding and it has enabled us to buy equipment that we can use in the future.

We know schools are keen to ensure all their students have access to the very best STEM inspiration activities, but unfortunately funding restrictions can be a challenge for many. We’re delighted to be able to offer our STEM bursaries again this year and look forward to seeing more young people from all backgrounds enjoying exciting STEM experiences and inspiring a diverse future workforce in engineering and technology.
