Neon expands its remit to STEM
Organisations across the UK are invited to amplify their STEM outreach by featuring their activities on Neon – the national platform connecting schools with high-quality STEM experiences.

As part of its ongoing development, Neon is expanding its remit to cover the whole of STEM, rather than just engineering and technology. This broader focus will allow teachers to access an even richer mix of high-quality experiences spanning science, technology, engineering and maths. It also helps teachers show how STEM subjects naturally point toward the wide range of careers available in engineering.
By widening its scope, Neon aims to connect even more organisations and companies with schools. This will ensure that young people benefit from diverse, inspiring opportunities that reflect the full breadth of the STEM landscape.
Neon helps primary and secondary teachers bring the curriculum to life by making it easy to discover engaging, high-quality enrichment opportunities. More than 125 providers are already featured, offering workshops, events, and hands-on activities to inspire young people about engineering and wider STEM careers. The platform is accessed by tens of thousands of educators each year.
Neon also supports Big Bang at School events by helping teachers find STEM experiences to enrich activities and highlight pathways that lead into engineering careers.
EngineeringUK is now encouraging additional companies and organisations, particularly those with strong outreach programmes, to submit their activities for inclusion. Listing an experience on Neon is completely free. Providers can choose to target local schools or those with a higher proportion of underrepresented students, supporting efforts to broaden participation across STEM.
All experiences submitted to Neon are assessed against a set of quality standards to ensure they deliver meaningful impact for teachers and students. These include:
- positive, contemporary messaging about engineering
- clear learning outcomes
- inclusive design and delivery
- strong curriculum and careers links
- transparent cost and time information
- safeguarding, data protection and public liability compliance
- support for teachers to embed learning after the activity
By expanding to cover the whole of STEM, Neon is positioning itself as the UK’s go-to place for schools seeking high-quality enrichment. This next phase of growth creates a significant opportunity for organisations to raise the profile of their outreach and inspire many more young people into STEM careers.
By widening its scope, Neon aims to connect even more organisations and companies with schools. This will ensure that young people benefit from diverse, inspiring opportunities that reflect the full breadth of the STEM landscape.
