Jun 8, 2023

Industry experts in the aviation and aerospace sector have come together to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. The Opportunities in Aviation & Aerospace group will debut their collaborative efforts to engage and excite young people with aviation and aerospace STEM careers for the first time at The Big Bang Fair 2023.

EngineeringUK, the organiser of The Big Bang Fair, is collaborating with a number of organisations including the Civil Aviation Authority, Aerobility, The Royal Aeronautical Society, British Airways and TUI to deliver an industry-first collaboration of this size and scale.

The Opportunities in Aviation & Aerospace group aims to inspire and engage with young people to explore careers in STEM, aviation and aerospace to support and encourage their future career choices. Exhibiting on the Generation Aviation stand at The Big Bang Fair, the group will join forces to showcase the skills and career opportunities available in the aviation and aerospace industry.

The Big Bang Fair 2023 will take place on Wednesday 21 to Friday 23 June 2023 at the NEC in Birmingham. The Fair is the largest celebration of STEM for young people in the UK, providing young people will have the opportunity to meet real engineers and scientists, and get involved in hands-on activities.

Lisa Garrett, Senior New Customers & Partnerships Manager at EngineeringUK shared her thoughts:

“EngineeringUK is delighted to be part of the launch of a new aviation area at this year’s Big Bang Fair.

Our partnership with The Civil Aviation Authority, Aerobility, The Royal Aeronautical Society, British Airways and TUI represents a shared commitment to inspire, enable and support diverse young people into aviation and aerospace. We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and the positive impact we can make together.”

Supporting the next generation

Brenda Jefcoate, STEM & Aviation Skills Consultant at the Civil Aviation Authority commented on the collaboration:

“This year’s Generation Aviation Stand will see industry experts coming together united in our vision to educate visitors on the versatility and variety of careers that this industry has to offer.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority STEM Team are delighted to support ‘Generation Aviation’ with a collaborative aviation and aerospace stand at this year’s Big Bang, together we hope to inspire all visitors to learn more about this amazing industry.”

This comes at a crucial time, as the workforce within the aviation and aerospace sector has had a low in recruitment and is in need to a diverse and younger workforce to fill future skills gaps. The ‘Opportunities in Aviation & Aerospace’ group is committed to supporting the ambitions and interests of everyone to create opportunities in STEM which are inclusive and engaging for all.
