Have your say on making engineering BTEC for operatives more workshop focused

May 14, 2024

Young people studying engineering in the workplace

Engineering employers are being given the opportunity to have their say on proposals to introduce a broad, more accessible qualification for learners who know they want to get a job as an Engineering Operative, but aren't ready for employment, or to study a level 3 A Level.

Pearson, corporate members of EngineeringUK, are looking to engage with engineer professionals to update the current BTEC Level 2 qualification in Engineering Operations to add more practical workshop skills, to create a more useful qualification.

A short panel meeting with employers will take place on 24 May from 10am to 11am to get feedback on their initial proposals for the qualification.

The idea is to develop a L2 Engineering Operatives Technical Occupational Entry qualification (TOEQ) to complement the Lean Manufacturing Operatives qualification developed last year.
