Robotics teacher award
On 26 and 27 June, 6 teachers from schools across the UK took part in 2 inspiring days at Cambridge University.
The teachers had all won the Helsington Foundation teacher award at The Big Bang Fair 2019, in recognition of the passion and dedication they had demonstrated over the past few years in the Tomorrow’s Engineers EEP Robotics Challenge and promoting STEM in their schools.

The prize consisted of £1,000 to the school to promote STEM learning as well as a dinner at Cambridge University’s Christ's College, an insiders’ guide to Cambridge admissions, as well as a tour of undergraduate teaching areas at the Department of Engineering and Emmanuel College.
The Tomorrow’s Engineers EEP Robotics Challenge sees student teams build, program and control autonomous LEGO robots to complete a series of short, exciting missions. Teamwork, robots, design, discovery, fun and loads of LEGO are all part of the mix, as are real-world challenges, teacher CPD and some great prizes.
What an experience! I feel truly humble to have received an award for my work as a teacher and it is never my goal to seek personal glory from the work that I do, it is the pupils who are at the forefront of everything I do. I have had 2 days that are among the best in my education career and this is due to the TE Robotics challenge, it has allowed me to provide an opportunity for my pupils to be the best that they can be.
If the clock was rolled back to the day I read an email about the competition 3 years ago, knowing what I know now, I'd complete the application in a heartbeat! If you are reading this and think 'maybe' or 'I haven't got the time', make the time and get involved!
