EngineeringUK has worked in partnership with The Careers & Enterprise Company to develop a new online resource for employers. The new website draws on the learnings of our work with our Corporate Members exploring emerging practice in the design, delivery and implementation of virtual work experience. That work explored programme content, co-creation, safeguarding, logistics, useful tools, resources, frameworks and platforms and how to measure impact.
A key aim of the EngineeringUK Virtual Work Experience Working Group was to share learnings widely to inform the wider engineering community and help employers across the UK continue to provide young people with access to good quality, meaningful, inspiring work experience opportunities.
The learnings have been used to inform the tone and content of this Gatsby Benchmark 6 (experiences of the workforce) resource for employers in all industry sectors to help bridge the gap between education and employment and prepare young people for the future now. Work experience helps to build a young person’s confidence, offers new perspectives, develops your current workforce and creates a candidate pool for future recruitment.
It isn’t difficult to offer work experience, particularly when drawing on high-quality resources covering planning, preparation and delivery, whilst providing you with practical resources to download.
Visit the website for a step-by-step guide to offering work experience, support to ensure your programme is inclusive and attracts diverse talent and resources covering a wide range of topics from safeguarding to programme evaluation.
