Jan 27, 2022

2022 marks 175 years since the foundation of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). This represents an excellent opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the institution and the huge contribution of mechanical engineering to society, whilst also inspiring the future generation of engineers.

The IMechE will celebrate and honour its heritage while looking confidently to the future, to continue its 175-year-old mission to improve the world through engineering through series of events and guest lectures.

A celebration of achievements

The 175 celebratory events and activities are focusing on how mechanical engineers can help solve the global challenges we face today. From climate change to education and infection control to transport, the IMechE will be exploring how mechanical engineering can aid humanity.

Sir Patrick Vallance, the government’s chief scientific adviser, will give a special guest lecture on 27 January to launch the celebrations of the 175th anniversary. Sir Patrick will discuss 'the importance of harnessing the power of engineering to solve global challenges' and is free of charge and open to all.
