Celebrating National Inclusion Week

Date published: 17 September 2025

Now is the time

We are joining organisations across the country to celebrate National Inclusion Week 2025.

National Inclusion Week (NIW) is an annual event dedicated to celebrating inclusion and taking action to build inclusive workplaces. This year’s theme 'Now is the time' is a powerful reminder we need to take practical and sustainable steps now, to see results in the future.

In the engineering and technology sector we’ve seen progress towards creating a more diverse workforce, but we know there’s still a long way to go. The workforce is not yet representative of the wider population, with women being the most underrepresented group. Therefore we all need to play a role in attracting more young people from all backgrounds, particularly girls, into STEM careers.

So this week we encourage you to reflect, learn, and take action. Whether that’s educating yourself on the latest research on workforce diversity in our sector, accessing free resources to support your EDI, or simply starting a conversation with colleagues or your employer.

Our future workforce 2025

Also launching to coincide with National Inclusion Week is the #OurFutureWorkforce2025 campaign from Mediaplanet. We are pleased to be partnering with them, along with many other organisations.

The campaign aims to educate on how we can prepare the next generation of talent to meet evolving skills demands. Our Chief Executive, Dr Hilary Leevers, has contributed an article on how the engineering and technology sector is embracing diverse pathways.

She writes, “The demand for engineers and technicians continues to grow as these roles underpin the government’s ambitions for new housing, clean energy and economic growth. Employers are scaling up their recruitment and embracing a wider range of talent than ever before, opening up the sector to a more diverse group of candidates.”
