INCOSE UK becomes IfSE

The UK chapter of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) has been relaunched as the Institute for Systems Engineering (IfSE) – the professional home for Systems Engineers in the UK.

With the ability to grant Chartered Engineer(CEng), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Engineering Technician (EngTech) status, the relaunch as the Institute for Systems Engineering (IfSE) is the result of 6 years planning to ensure continuity for members and industry partners.

Existing membership services and resources will remain intact, with updated branding, membership options and a renewed focus on innovation in the current engineering sector. A refreshed vision puts systems engineering and thinking at the heart of solving complex challenges across sectors.

Andrew Pemberton, the new IfSE President, said “This is more than just a name change. It’s a statement of intent. The Institute for Systems Engineering is committed to championing the role of Systems Engineering in addressing the interconnected challenges facing industry, government, and society. We are proud to build on the strong foundations laid by INCOSE UK and look forward to an exciting future as The Institute for Systems Engineering (IfSE)."

Ian Gibson, IfSE Transformation Lead, added: “This transformation positions us to better serve our members, champion the profession, and engage new audiences with a modern, confident identity.”

INCOSE UK was originally founded in 1994 as the first international chapter of the Council on Systems Engineering outside of North America. Since 2020 it has been licensed by the Engineering Council as a Professional Engineering Institution, allowing it to assess candidates for inclusion in the national register of professional engineers and technicians. Ahead of the relaunch earlier this year the Engineering Council granted a 5 year extension to their Professional Registration Licence.
