Supporting teachers to connect climate education with engineering careers
A new series of short teacher CPD videos has been launched to help more young people understand the role of engineering and technology in tackling climate change.
The videos are linked to EUK Education’s Climate Schools Programme. The free, curriculum-linked lessons and activities help students aged 11 to 14 explore solutions to climate change while developing skills such as teamwork, problem-solving and communication.

Bringing real-world climate change solutions into the classroom
Climate change is an important topic for schools, but it can also leave young people feeling anxious or overwhelmed. The Climate Schools Programme takes a solutions-focused approach, helping teachers explore mitigation, adaptation and the practical action already being taken across engineering and technology.
After taking part in the lessons and activities, 7 out of 10 students reported feeling more hopeful about what we can do to tackle climate change. These new videos build on that positive focus by supporting teachers to connect climate learning with engineering skills, innovation and future careers.
What the CPD videos cover
The series includes 5 videos, each around 2 minutes long, designed to be quick, practical and easy for teachers to use alongside existing classroom resources.
The videos cover:
- an introduction to the Climate Schools Programme and its solutions-focused approach to climate education
- clear explanations of net zero, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions and balancing remaining emissions through removals
- practical examples such as renewable energy, electric vehicles, low-carbon fuels, carbon capture and nature-based solutions
- guidance on responding to climate misinformation through constructive discussion and critical thinking
- links between climate learning and future careers in areas such as renewable energy, energy storage, retrofitting buildings and low-carbon infrastructure
By bringing these themes together, the videos help teachers show students how STEM knowledge and skills can contribute to a greener future.
Supporting climate education and future green careers
From decarbonising transport and energy systems to improving the buildings and infrastructure we use every day, engineering and technology are central to the transition to net zero.
These new CPD videos support teachers to make those links in the classroom, helping students understand the breadth of green careers and the real-world impact of engineering and technology.
According to the Office for National Statistics, over 60% of the UK's current 'green' jobs are STEM-based, the majority of them in engineering and technology— Millie Nyakutsikwa, Business Development Manager, EngineeringUK
