More than 23,000 visitors attend The Big Bang Fair 2026

Thousands of young people discovered the possibilities of engineering and technology

This year's Big Bang Fair was another brilliant success in inspiring the next generation of people working in engineering and technology. Held at the NEC in Birmingham from 9 to 11 June, the UK's largest free STEM event for young people welcomed schools from across the country. The Fair comprises hands-on activities, live shows, interactive exhibits and careers inspiration.

Across the event, we welcomed more than 23,000 visitors from 353 unique schools:

  • 20,749 young people
  • 2,364 teachers and careers leaders

In addition, 59% of schools met EngineeringUK's priority schools criteria, making sure the event continues to reach young people from groups that are underrepresented in engineering and technology.

Visitors explored exciting STEM careers, met inspiring role models and engaged with interactive experiences. From hands-on challenges and careers activities to live demonstrations and showcases, The Fair highlighted the breadth of opportunities available within engineering and technology. All delivered by organisations from across industry, education and the wider STEM community.

The Big Bang Fair plays a vital role in helping young people understand where STEM subjects can lead. By bringing together employers, educators and STEM professionals, it helps young people see the real-world applications of science, engineering and technology. Young people leave imagining themselves pursuing future careers in these fields.

The Fair also provides an important platform for employers and organisations to connect directly with young people. It helps them raise awareness of the skills, roles and opportunities that will be critical to the UK's future workforce.

Phil McShane, Associate Director of The Big Bang programme, says: "EngineeringUK would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of this year's Fair, including exhibitors, supporters, volunteers, teachers and schools. Special thanks go to Rolls-Royce plc and Technicians: We make the difference for their continued support. The Big Bang Fair is a huge part of meeting our shared mission: to inspire more young people from all backgrounds to consider a future in engineering and technology."

Showcasing the UK's brightest young STEM talent

The Fair also celebrated the achievements of young innovators at The Big Bang Competition awards ceremony. Winners were recognised for outstanding projects in science, engineering and technology, with 375 project entries from 800 young people. 38 prizes were awarded. The winners showcase the diverse talent that will help shape the UK's future STEM workforce.

The Big Bang Fair and The Big Bang Competition remain key opportunities to engage young people, helping them discover the exciting possibilities STEM can offer.
